Man Lifts: How to Choose Height, Reach, and Power
Nama Jeddah Team — Sep 11, 2025
For safe and efficient work at height, man lifts (MEWPs) provide fast positioning and mobility compared to scaffolding. We supply a wide range of articulating and telescopic boom lifts and vertical masts.
Types
1) Articulating Boom
Multiple joints to up-and-over obstacles—ideal in cramped urban or industrial sites.
2) Telescopic Boom
Straight long reach horizontally/vertically—best for open sites and far targets.
3) Vertical Mast
Compact units for indoor tasks and narrow aisles.
How to choose
- Work height: target point + 1–2 m safety margin (note: work height ≈ platform height + ~2 m).
- Horizontal reach: choose articulating to go over obstacles; telescopic for long straight reach.
- Environment: electric for indoors; diesel for outdoors/rough terrain.
- Machine dimensions: door widths, aisle widths, floor loading limits.
- Platform capacity: operators + tools + materials within rated capacity.
- Terrain: select drive/tires and leveling as needed.
Safety plan
- Daily inspections: hydraulics, platform, booms, tires, emergency systems.
- Clear work zones and obey exclusion areas.
- PPE and harnessing per manufacturer guidance.
- Do not operate in high winds or exceed platform capacity.
